Top 5 Dog Friendly Activities in the Northern Neck

  • Posted on

If your dog is anything like ours, vacation isn’t really a vacation unless they can come too.

Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Scamp, has been our adventure buddy since he was a puppy. Whether we’re hiking wooded trails, relaxing by the water, or enjoying a meal outdoors, he’s happiest when he’s with his people.

That’s one of the reasons we created Easthaven to be a truly dog-friendly vacation rental in Virginia’s Northern Neck. We know how important it is to find places where every member of the family—including the four-legged ones—feels welcome.

If you’re planning a pet-friendly getaway on Virginia’s Northern Neck, here are five of our favorite dog-friendly activities near Easthaven:

1. Explore Westmoreland State Park with Your Dog

Few places capture the beauty of the Northern Neck quite like Westmoreland State Park.

Miles of scenic hiking trails wind through forests and along the Potomac River, making it one of the best dog-friendly outdoor destinations in Virginia. Scamp especially loves the beach, where we spend hours searching for prehistoric shark teeth, enjoying the sunshine, and taking in the water views.

For active dogs and nature-loving owners, it’s a must-visit destination during your stay.

Why dogs love it: Wide-open trails, river breezes, and plenty of new scents to discover.

2. Relax at Northern Neck Brewing Company

After a day of exploring, there’s nothing better than unwinding at Northern Neck Brewing Company.

Their outdoor seating area is dog-friendly, making it easy to enjoy a local craft beer while your pup relaxes beside you. Live music is often on the schedule, creating the perfect laid-back atmosphere that captures the charm of the Northern Neck.

We’re especially partial to their IPAs, and the loaded fries never disappoint.

Why dogs love it: Outdoor seating, friendly people, and plenty of opportunities to soak up attention.

3. Wander Through Tom Rhodes’ Enchanted Forest

Looking for a peaceful walk that feels straight out of a storybook?

Tom Rhodes’ Enchanted Forest offers a magical woodland experience where families can explore unique sculptures, winding paths, and hidden surprises tucked among the trees. The kids love discovering what’s around each bend, and Scamp is always eager to lead the way.

Every season brings something different, making it worth visiting year-round.

Why dogs love it: Shaded trails, natural surroundings, and endless opportunities for exploration.

4. Grab a Bite at Fischer’s Roadhouse

When it’s time for lunch or dinner, Fischer’s Roadhouse is one of our favorite local spots.

Located just minutes from Easthaven, this casual, open-air restaurant welcomes families and dogs alike. The relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to enjoy a meal without leaving your furry companion behind. They also have a great play structure for the kids.

Our family favorites include the cheese curds and açaí bowls, though it’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu.

Why dogs love it: Plenty of outdoor space and a welcoming environment.

5. Get Out on the Water

One of the best parts of staying at Easthaven is having direct access to the water.

While Scamp wouldn’t exactly call himself a “water dog,” his loyalty to his humans usually convinces him to hop aboard a paddleboat, kayak, or paddleboard. Many visiting dogs are much more enthusiastic, spending hours swimming, jumping off the dock, and splashing in the calm waters.

With kayaks, paddleboards, paddleboats, and easy water access available right at Easthaven, it’s the perfect place to discover whether your pup is destined for life on the water.

Why dogs love it: Swimming, dock jumping, boat rides, and endless waterfront fun.
